Keep on Keeping on

"By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:" 1 John 2:3-5 NASB

Sounds intimidating doesn't it? John didn't write this as a way that we could test other believers. He wrote it for us to check ourselves. Since we've been examining obedience, this seemed like a fitting passage to study. The meaning of the word "keep" is essential to understanding these verses. It's implication is to maintain a course. It's a real journey with a real destination. Like all journeys we're bound to get off course but the goal is to keep on keepin' on in the right direction. Went we get lost it's time to stop and get directions and study our map. That's prayer, Godly counsel, and reading the word of God. Most important never be to proud to admit when you made a wrong turn.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NASB

All unrighteousness...?

Wow! No matter what we have done, we can always count on God being bigger than our screw-ups.

I am thankful that we have a heavenly Father to Whom we can run when the pig slop finally brings the reality that we need in order to wake up and smell the poop!

God is so much better that the pig pen of our stupid choices:)
