To Know Him is to Love Him

1John 2:4-6 says," The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
To keep His word, we must know His word. John is talking about forming a strong relationship and identity with God Himself. He wrote this so we could be sure we were on the right path. Why would we want to do what Jesus did? ....to avoid Hell or do we truly want to be more like Him? Well that's a no-brainer. He designed us with friendship in mind but we have chosen formality and cold religion instead. I'm urging us all to continue testing ourselves against the scriptures daily so that we can really know God in person. One final thing, I heard a preacher say the other day that if we're going to change our relationship with God we also need to change our relationship with sin. How true!

Hint: To get a jump start on knowing Jesus, cruise on back to the Gospels and practice doing what He did. CAUTION!! Do not attempt walking on water unless you were born of a virgin.
